About Hialeah, Fl

HISTORY

Incorporated in 1926, Hialeah is home to some of the most amazing history in all of Miami Dade County. The city’s name, Hialeah, is derived from an Indian tribal name meaning “High Prairie. ” This city was of great importance to the Indians as they came here from the everglades on a daily basis in order to sell, trade, and buy goods on the bank of the Okeechobee River. Although Hialeah was known for being primarily composed of Cubans, today the city is more diverse and contains a multi- cultural population from all over Latin America and the Caribbean Islands. Today the residential population in Hialeah has grown to over 236,000. With a large working industry, the City of Hialeah is proud to be one of the largest employers in Miami Dade County. Hialeah has conserved its Hispanic culture which can be seen in its architecture, small boutiques, and restaurants. The neighborhoods are family oriented and very conservative.
